As for Rei, I'm quite disappointed her grandpa was so different. Even though I prefer manga rRei, I agree with you her grandpa and relationship int he 90s tV series were HILARIOUS as hell! ANd I loved the way the 90s made him a bald short old man with a pervert's heart

Yuuchiro was one of my fav male ROmantic interests in the 90s series and I'm disappointed how he hasn't appeared in the manga so far. I think its awesome who he's in love with Rei wyet such a principled man who's iwlling to give her up if the need should come (but still in love with he rso much that it'd be difficult to find another girl to like). While at the same time being so physically strong and also being a worthy helpout int he household! In fact I wonder why the later seasons stopped featuring him.

Even though I liked the 90s Usagi so much, I agree she was annoying as hell. Though I find myself loving manga USagi because while she starts out witht he same flaws, she matures much faster and also her vices aren't as exagerrated to the point of childishness like the 90s portrayed he. Not to mention once she matures she doesn't act like the idiot she was fixed as; seriously it was annoying seeing her flaws in as late as Sailor Stars! Whilein the manga by the time the final battle with Queen Beryl was coming up, she'd already become more and more Cancerian and while she still holds some of her old flaws, they gradually are disappearing and those she retains have ebcome so repressed to the point they are now adorable to watch rather than annoying.

BTW are you familiar with the Crystal reboot/remake? I plan to watch it once I read the manga.

WOW I finally finihsed Full Metal Alchemist 2003 today! It was definitley an AMAZING SERIES and I now understand why I was so eager to always stay up late at night every saturday when I was a kid and teen just to watch the next episode on Adult Swim!

I can understand how the series impacted you/. Its so heartwarming and uplifting especially the brotherhood between the Elric brothers.

I get how you mean about difficulty in life. Maybe if II had rewatched FMA back in the 2008-early 2010s  a lot would not have happened in my life and I have no doubt it could be an easy contender for fictional franchise/universe that impacted me the most. But at that time I was so much  of a pro military conservative (at least in my fucking naive stupid young mind) that I forsaken anime and it took owning a Sega Saturn and getting exposed to Sakura Taisen and all the animesque games and licensed games based on anime/manga franchise on that console that I got back into anime/manga and evnetually came across Saint SEiya (which as I already stated impacted me so damn profoundly).

But whos your favorite? BAck than when I was a child Mustang because of his dashing personality and sexy looks (I fucking envied his regal personality and badass internal willpower). Now? MUSTANG STILL! Except now I learned an important lesson and its that even perfect people like Roy tend to have such hidden flaws and even low self esteem once you know them better that they're not the beacons of perfection you'd envy. I should stop here because I'm touching a sensistive part of my life. But had I rewatched FMA back in my late teen/early adult years I wouldn't have had such low self esteem because of how HUMAN Roy Mustang is! (Its too bad when Iw as young I didn't complete the series and missed many episodes in betweeen  at some points because of trouble in school and I was so concentrating on how BADASS the characters were I failed to realize what a  MASTERPIECE of character development the 2003 series is).

However now I grew to FUCKING LOVE Armstrong! Blame it on Hokuto No Ken but I gotten into WEightlifting and other trength based sports this year and have grown increddibly fond of huge Conan the Barbarianesque type of heroes and Armstrong fits it to a T! ALso his jovial fire personality makes me love him even more!

Edward is another obvious fav. But I also grew to like Risa. Such a Virgonian personality with probablya  strong Saturn dominated chart. Its easy to see why she gets alongside Roy so well (who is an overall Capricorn personality with Leo and Libra overtones being tied as his next dominant chart). THey may seem different but they are birds of the same feathers flocking together!

TRUST me Saint SEiya is an exciting series though it can get repetitive later and (at least the manga) the character development and overall stor is simplistic when compared to the modern standards of masterpieces such as Full Metal Alchemist and Rurouni KEnshin. BUt the lore is FANTASTIC aas are the fight scenes (literally some of the best choreographied I ever seen in Shonen). At least I'd recommend either the 1986 TV series (which adds a lot of missing engines to the manga such as character development and filler villains that really build up the tone for the upcoming boss battles  as well as a fantastic OST that few modern series can match; not lying when I say the OST alone is worth watching the 80s series and is on part with Cowboy Bebop and Full Metal as some of the best in animation and yes I include Western stuff in this).  If you don't have time to watch stuff, I'd recommend some of the spinoffs such as The Lost Canvas manga which also puts in missing parts in the original manga that the 80s TV series added.

You can also watch the Omega Spinoff (which even though its a sequel series can be watched as stand alone and does some stuff even better than LC and the 80s TV series such as more slice of life moments).

Rurouni Kenshin  an even bigger childhood memory than FMA! If I had rewatched it back in 2010, it easily be the series that impacted me most! HEll I currently rank it third after Saint Seiya and Hokuto No Ken as the fictional faranchise/universe that impacted me most! Its thanks to a recent compelte watch last month and reading this monthh that I got so interested in not just Japanesse culture beyond anime/manga but also East Asian culture as a whole! Now I'm watching some Chinese Kung Fu flicks and Korean dramas and listening to traditional Chinese music and KPOP and watching Mongol horsemanship other East Asian cultural stuff as a whole! Plus I even started practising with Katanas and learnign abouts wordsmanship (including European, Indonesian,  Turkish, etc) thanks to RK!

A Soujira fan! Well I'm more of a Saito, Misao and Sanosuke fan ;P. But I can see why Seta's so beloved. A very pretty boy with a golden ehart corrupted by an evil man! Easy to feel sorry for and lust after  !

BTW have yous een the live action trilogy? I cna't believe I've been out of touch with Rurouni Kenshin for the last decade, I never even released back in 2009they mad enew animated movies! I'm going to be watching botht he new animated films and the live action trilogy this December. I gotta say a lot of the actors they CHOSE are FUCKING HOT  ! Have you seen in particular Kaoru? Even the guys are goodlookin (especially Seta's actor!).

rurouni kenshin gif kenshin himura Ah, "Rurouni Kenshin"! Another favorite of mine! My fave in the series? Soujiro Seta! rurouni kenshin gif Seta Sojiro

Don't have allot of time for fandoms anymore, but "Saint Saiya" sounds interesting.

Kind of a long story how FMA impacted me. At first, I didn't want to like it due to its popularity at the time, but then I decided I'd give it a shot. At this time, a loved one of mine was dealing with cancer. The whole themes of life and death, equivalent exchange, and Ed's words to Rose "You have a strong pair of legs, You should get up and use them" kind of struck a chord with me.
Edward Elric (I got this) [V1]

I've only read a little of the "Sailor Moon" Manga, but am more familiar with the anime. I guess I found myself relating to Rei as a teenager; I liked guys like Yuuchiro, had very little patience with people like Usagi, liked to toss bread crumbs to crows now and again, and her relationship with her grandpa sort of made me think of my own with my late grandpa.

I'm actually quite busy to in my life with my intention to major in culinary and get a career in some food profession. So I won't be having time for fandoms later by next year and I'm just spending this year finishing up old childhood series and recommendations I received for years but never managed to check out.

FMA-well the original 2003 TV series-is both of these. A childhood memory but also a series so many people recommended to me online including you did years ago back on youtube that after finally finishing Sailor Stars this month, I decided to give FMA a shot for the first time in 10 years. I'm quite surprised I didn't start on it earlier this year because its far better than I remember! In fact I wished I started it earlier when I was rewatching Hokuto No Ken earlier this year during the winter months because I don't think I'll be able to finish the manga afterwads due to so many series to catch up! I'm already a bit exhausted with Samurai Champloo and Outlaw Star (which I also finished this month) and I still have Speed Racer, Vampire Knight, and so many other series. SIGH I hope I can finish it this year so I don't have to make a complex schedule next year when I continue college.

I see. So thats you love the series so much. FMA came back into my life too late to make such an impact, but I understand how you feel.

For me Saint Seiya is pretty much the SERIES that IMPACTED MY LIFE. Much for the same reason as you state FMA did for yours and far more; it not only revived my interest in anime/manga, gaming, and comics as it waned and nearly died several times for the past half of the 2010s decade but it also brought me into so many new hobbies such as astrology, mythology, etc. Not to mention by reviving my interest in manga and other mediums I almost left permanently, it also got me interested into many other authors and anime/manga (well TBH other fictional works). For example it Hokuto No Ken was a series that I got big into right after Saint Seiya revived my interest in manga for like the 4th or 5th time and not only did I finish HNK as a result (I tried to watch it once but gave up after ep 30), HNK became a quick favorite series that impacted me around the same league as Saint Seiya did. And Rurouni Kenshin (also a childhood memory) I finally got around watching because Seiya got me even deeper into the medium after I finally read the manga this year and Rurouni Kenshin impacted me just as the same level. In short words not only I wouldn't be into anime/manga because of Saint Seiya today but so many other hobbies and life interests wouldn't have been a part of my without the way Saint Seiya changed my personal outlook on life and got me into other series, revived interests in old childhood ones, or finally gave me the inspiration and willpower to finish fictions I always tried to finish but always gave up (such as the first Sims and HNK).

WOW this just inspired me to write a DeviantArt journal! But YES thats how much this specific manga impacted me. XD I wouldn't even be on DeviantArt without the Knights of the Zodiac getting me back into manga several times!

I am curious though other than changing personal philosophy, did FMA impact you in other ways such as getting you into hobbies or inspiring you to check out other series (that in turn inspired you to get into further series, new hobbies, or change your view on the world even more)?

Jupiter ALWAYS was my favorite from youth. I won't bring up how she's physically my ideal (PERVERTED thoughts!), but after I finished the last season this month OH MY GOD she's also my IDEAL WOMAN beyond physical looks! I just love "Taurean" like women such as her  (she really embodies a hybrid of fire and Taurus)! Along with the "Amis" of the real world, I hope to come across the real life Jupiters lol!

Ami is my easy second favorite and her personality type is pretty much ideal along with Sailor Jupiter ( if Makoto is a Fire Sign/Taurus hybrid, Ami is practically the perfect fictional representation of a natal chart that is hybrid of Virgo and Cancer; which are practically easily my favorite Zodiac Sign along with the other Earth and Gemini and Aries).

WOW I got into astrology so fast in this converstaion! Well sorry but its difficult not to talk about Sailor Moon (and Saint Seiya) without bringing in astrology and your profile also has a stamp saying you're a Leo sun.  Astrology is one of the things I was big into after Youtube deleted my account (well BLAME Saint Seiya LOL) although because the community is so childish and idiotic  I left quite a while back. But I still study astrology on a personal basis (I just don't participate with groups especially forums because of how they take it to BS obsessive levels).

I guess Jupiter and Mercury are easily my favs because they are the best fictional portrayal of hybrids of different signs and because my chart also has strong Leo, Capricorn, and Scorpio elements; I think they dominate my chart as tied in terms of calculated percentages IIRC (though quite recently I became more of a hybrid of Capricorn, Taurus, and Aries). I'll stop here at my rant about astrology lol.

But I also favor Chibi-Usa (who is hated by the fandom), Haruka,  Hotaru, and manga Rei.

Sorry for my assumption, its subconcious because almost every Canadian anime fan I met so far came from Quebec and even those who come from other regions often frequently visit Quebec because of the strong Otaku fandom there. So whenever I chat about anime with someone who lists Canada as country currently living in, Quebecian is the first assumption I have (I have to learn to stop being so stereotypical).

If you have read the manga, what do you think of Rei's original incarnation? While the TV adaptation definitely gave her strong points I tend to be annoyed by her impulsive and preppy nature as well as snarky comments (but she isn't the worst example in fiction and her positive traits such  as loyalty to comrades equals her annoying flaws out). However Manga Rei easily became one of my favorite SM characters. I identify with her pessimistic nature and I admire her mature level-headed mentality. Must be all the Capricorn in my chart, but I see so much of the Earth element in Rei.

Before I get further, how familiar are you with astrology (have to ask before I impulsively bring up bizarre concepts that you'd have to be familiar with the mere basic astrology to understand)

:) Yeah, busy with allot of stuff in real life now, work, moving, writing my own original novel, etc, so not much time for fandoms.

FMA is another favorite of mine (I love both the 2003 series and Brotherhood) because the message kind of helped me deal with a tough time in my own life.

Yes, I'm *sort of* familiar with "Rose Of Versailles" and "Saint Seiya", though I'm not from Quebec. Hi-I'm-from-Canada

"Sailor Moon" was actually my first anime, and a sentimental favorite now. I remember, my favorite in the series was Rei/Mars!

OK, even if you aren't the Youtuber I used to chat with, I assume you're familiar with Rose of Versailles?  Because your profile states you are from Canada and Versailles has quite a following in Quebec-it was actually really huge in France back in the 80s and 90s and still remain a beloved classic there.

Are you also familiar with Saint Seiya and Fist of the North Star( which also were huge in France and thus have a cult following in Quebec).

And I assume you also have at some point followed Sailor Moon? LOL Sakura Taisen reminds me so much of Sailor Moon when I look at it back in hindsight! I just finished the TV series and am reading the Manga. Even though I think its an overrated series, a lot of my favorite anime/manga characters ceome from SM!

Hhhhmm I think we may have met years ago on Youtube. I can't remembet my username because my account got deleted long since due to inactivity but I did use to post clips from the ST game. I was just browsing Youtube and I came across some FMA artworks and when I saw "Karenjade" it reminded me vaguely of youtube. I'm not sure if you're the same person but I do remember somoene with a username something along the lines of yours I used to chat with frequently.

Well it maybe a different person but when I had a youtube account I used to post in-game clips from Sakura Taisen! Well if you're that same FMA fan I used to chat with, well hello! Long time no see!

BTW (assuming you are the same youtube user), I finally got started on Full Metal Alchemist. WOW I can't believe it took me 5 years to go on that recommendation! More embarrasing considering before I even discorered Sakura Wars, FMA was already a distant childhood memory (used to watch it all the time on Adult Swim)........

Than again after I got into Sakura Taisen, I was introduced to so many anime/manga franchises from Sailor Moon to Rose of Versailles to Saint Seiya to Ranma 1.2........... TOO MANY to list! (although Sailor Moon was also a childhood memory albeit it wasn't until I got Sakura Taisen that I came across an SM game rom and played it via emulator).

If you are the same youtuber, well I HAVE LOTS to chat about!
